Indian Passport Renewal Process for NRIs in the UK
Indian citizens residing in the UK must renew their passport before its expiry to continue using it for travel and legal purposes.
Indian Passport renewal process:
Passport services for Indians in the UK are handled by VFS Global under the direction of the High Commission of India, London.
- Online Passport Renewal Application:
- Visit the Passport Seva website: https://portal2.passportindia.gov.in/
- Register/Login and complete the passport renewal application form.
- Download & print the application form.
- Book an Appointment with VFS Global:
- Go to the VFS Global website: https://visa.vfsglobal.com/ind/en/gbr/
- Select a nearby VFS center (London, Birmingham, Edinburgh, etc.).
- Choose an appointment date & submit the online application.
- Prepare Required Documents:
- Original passport + photocopy of first & last pages.
- Two recent passport-sized photos (2 inches x 2 inches, white background).
- Proof of UK residence (utility bill, bank statement, BRP, etc.).
- Marriage certificate (if applicable for spouse name change).
- Deed poll certificate (if changing name legally in the UK).
- Biometric & Document Submission at VFS:
- Visit the selected VFS Global center on the appointment date.
- Submit documents, provide fingerprints, and pay the fees
- Passport Type Normal Processing:
- 36-page passport £57
- 60-page passport £75
- Tatkal (Urgent) Processing:
- 36-page passport £151
- 60-page passport £173
- Passport Type Normal Processing:
- Processing Time & Collection:
- Normal processing: 4–6 weeks.
- Tatkal (Urgent) processing: 3–5 working days.
- The new passport can be collected from VFS or delivered by post.
Note: Tatkal service is only for emergencies (loss, damage, or urgent travel needs).
